Name of Strategy:Say Something

 

Purpose:†† Struggling readers often view their reading task as the need to finish the assignment.They donít focus on the text or attend to their reading.Say Something is a strategy that interrupts a reading to allow a student to think about what is being read.

 

Description of Strategy: (Putting the Strategy to Work)

  1. Work with a partner; decide who will go first.
  2. Person #1 will orally begin the reading of the text, pausing at a designated interval (such as at the end of the paragraph) to say something. Then person #2 will read and say something.
  3. The person who says something may:

         Make a prediction

         Ask a question

         Clarify something that was misunderstood

         Make a comment

         Make a connection
